Three Tips on How to Stay Motivated During the Final Months of School

Finding the motivation to work hard during school, sports, and other extracurricular activities can be very challenging during the final months of school. The summer anticipation kicks in, and for seniors, the excitement of future endeavors and new atmospheres captures our attention. Though, instead of deciding to give up so close to the end of the year, here are three tips for how to stay motivated so you can finish confidently and proudly!

1. Give Yourself Time to Rest and Recover

Rest is extremely important when trying to manage homework, studying, athletics, the arts, and a multitude of other activities. Sometimes, it feels like so much going on all at once that a break from it all might not be possible. However, there’s always time to rest and allow yourself to recover from a busy week. It doesn’t have to be a long, full day break, but give yourself at least two hours on the weekend or a half an hour during the weekday to do something for yourself and your own interests outside of your weekly activities. Make a bracelet, read a new book, write a short story, listen to a podcast, or even take a nap. After your break, you may feel well-rested and inspired enough to get back to your weekly commitments with a newfound sense of optimism, creativity, and focus.

2. Have Some Fun

Weekends are a great time to step away from school and sports and have some fun! Seeing a movie, going out to dinner, or just hanging out with friends or family may take your mind off of your responsibilities for a while. It might relieve some stress that’s been looming over your head during your busy weeks. Your friends and family might even be able to relate to and support you through your struggles with maintaining motivation.

3. Make a Schedule

Tests, sports games, homework assignments, and band recordings seem a lot less daunting when you’re aware and prepared for them, so make a schedule to keep track of all of your upcoming assessments and events. Making a schedule may help you find a time to fit in some rest, fun, and, of course, time to get the work done. It will allow you to break up your work into sections, manage your time, and maybe even feel a sense of accomplishment for having all of your activities planned out ahead of time, especially with AP exams and finals approaching.

As the end of the school year quickly approaches, keep working hard! Don’t give up so close to the end; instead, finish the year off strong. You got this!
