The Book Fair: A Place of Wondrous Knowledge!

By: Sydne Scott

Tower Hill’s Annual Scholastic Book Fair has returned!

Similar to previous years, this enticing event was held in the 1919 Auditorium, from Tuesday, November 5th, to Thursday, November 7th. Inside the decorated space lies shelves full of books, exciting titles meant to provide students with reprieve from the busy school day. The event gains traction through the poster and cardboard cut-outs placed around school, along with flyers sent home, so families are encouraged to plan in advance for the books they intend to purchase.

Providing a treasure trove of knowledge, the Scholastic book fair allows for students to revitalize an interest in reading or to discover a newfound passion. The event included a range of books spanning numerous genres, allowing for an accommodation of multiple types of students.

Some titles included The Babysitter’s Club, a light-hearted novel revolving around a group of friends who decide to start a babysitting business, as well as Stranded, a thrilling adventure novel detailing a mountaineer who has been stranded miles away from home in a sudden and fierce snowstorm. These literary treasures are just a small part of the book fair experience.

In addition to action and graphic novels, the fair also offers a number of fascinating trinkets and stationary available to brighten up pencil cases and put on spin on students’ notes. From UV pens to scented pens, once students have concluded their browsing, they’re able to select from a wide arrangement of cool toys and science kits to complete their book fair experience.

Luke Scott (‘29), a Tower Hill 8th grader, was one of the many middle school students to attend the book fair. “I guess I like the books. Like the action ones.” Luke said when asked about his favorite aspect of the fair. “It’s also pretty cool to see how they decorate the room.”

The aesthetics of the 1919 Auditorium is definitely a favorite among both students and faculty, thanks to the help of volunteers. Their hard work on the logistics of the event, whether it be helping with set up or assisting patrons in finding a book they’re interested in, contributes greatly to the smooth running of the fair.

The Scholastic Book Fair always proves to be a unifying event, bringing students together through a genuine passion for reading (as well as cute knick knacks!!) during the cool fall season.
