Beautiful with its unique complexities beneath the surface while being equally as appealing on its simplistic exterior. Catering to my personalized needs and allowing individual strengths to flourish. I’m somewhat embarrassed to say this description does not apply to some profound relationship with a family member or loved one, but rather with Nike’s new model of cross-country spikes, the DragonFly.
The shoe is nothing short of iconic for me. The sleek silhouette reminds me of being a child obsessed with matchbox cars and always striving to be the fastest. I could see the shoe picking up speed, flying through corners, and being dubbed the fastest hotwheel on the track. When picking out the shoes, the vibrant color scheme immediately caught my eye, boisterously announcing to all around me “I'm the fastest here, deal with it!”
If the structure of the shoe spoke to me, the comfortability sang to me in a beautiful tune. The shoes felt like marshmallows; not just in the sense that they were lightweight and soft, but also in the fact that sprinting in them could only be described as sweet. While ascending hills with diligence is anything but enjoyable, the DragonFlys make this experience sustainable. A carbon plate in the shoe makes each step feel as if lightning is striking the ground. The grooved sole and forefoot had me confidently whistling through all terrain. Interchangeable spikes on the forefoot of the shoe made even the muddiest of hills feel like an afternoon stroll. DragonFly’s are simply royalty and all landscapes are under its rule.
Even though Nike opted for the slogan “Finish on empty,” I think the motto "Race where your imagination takes you” perfectly captures the essence of the shoe. Whether you run with the passion of an aspiring athlete or to simply feel childlike freedom, Nike’s DragonFly will support you through the finish line.
