Although it is only February, the Tower Hill B+ Club has already made a massive impact throughout our community! The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation helps kids fight cancer and raises money “to provide financial and emotional support to families of children with cancer nationwide and fund critical, cutting-edge childhood cancer research.”
Earlier this year, the club leaders, Alex Rice and Saira Kazmi, organized a week of lunch from Playa Bowls. Each grade showed extensive participation and support for the cause by purchasing açaí, pitaya, and coconut bowls and smoothies. This “Dine to Donate” event was a huge success towards Tower Hill’s fundraising goal for B+! Due to the incredible turnout for this event, Alex and Saira, as well as the sophomore club leaders, look forward to partnering with new restaurants soon.

On February 23 at Tatnall, Tower Hill, Tatnall, and Wilmington Friends hosted “Cure-a-thon,” a culmination of the current multi-school fundraising competition. As of February 19, Tower Hill has reached 90% of the $10,000 goal and has almost 150 team members! “Cure-a-thon” included raffles, food, a DJ, a spikeball tournament, tug of war, a donut e ating competition, guess the song, and musical chairs. Students, as well as faculty, who attended, were able to meet local B+ heroes and learned about their lives. Not only was “Cure-a-thon” an exciting event, but it also helped support the B+ cause.

Both Alex and Saira have done a great job teaching students and faculty about B+ and garnering support for a cause that they are extremely passionate about. As students are able to order their favorite lunches from outside restaurants and are able to participate in “Cure-a-thon,” it is incredibly important to understand that B+ is truly about spreading awareness and helping families who have children with cancer. While this year has already shown a spectacular amount of passion and participation, club members are eager to participate in more events to come!
